Safe Dog Biscuits

Want to know what dog biscuits are safe to feed your dog, with the recent outbreak of salmonella in canned dog food? In this article, one of our readers shares her opinion on the subject.

I have a somewhat large dog named Zoey.

She (being a 50 pound white boarder colly), along with our four cats, love to eat snacks all the time. So, I’m always interested in finding good treats, like dog biscuits.

I’ve been very cautious with what I feed my animals, especially since the recent outbreak of salmonella in all the can foods. That lead me to look for more trustworthy snacks, snack that I know Zoey would love, and that I know have the propper nutrition and ingredients to keep her safe.

One of my favorite and most trustworthy dog biscuits to give Zoey are Milk Bones. They’re long bone shaped, white biscuits full of calcium to help Zoey’s teeth and bones. Probally the most well known dog biscuits in the market, so I know I can trust Milk Bones.

They’ve got all kinds of different selections, ranging from puppy to adult to small dogs.

Zoey, still a puppy, needs all the calcium she can get, so that she can tear up all of my stuff, LOL. So, I give her the “Puppy” selection. It’s designed to give here the calcium she needs to grow.

Anyway, I love MilkBones because I can trust them. Even though I’ve tried one myself, (not to tasty) I know that Zoey loves them and that they’re great for her.

Every now and then I feed her the gravy kind, and man does she love those, even though they’re not as nutritious.

They’re not the cheapest biscuits out there by a longshot, but if you love your dog, you’ll definitely dish out some extra dough (forgive the pun) to get some biscuits that won’t harm them. So, know that your pet is safe, with Milk Bones.

Healthy Dog Biscuits

My dog was quite chubby. My vet, also my boss as I am a veterinary technician, has told me repeatedly that I need to stop giving my dog so many treats and absolutely NO table scraps or “people food”.

Being a soft hearted dog owner, stopping all treats for my lovely and loving dog is incredibly hard. She does tricks for treats, and that delights my sons.

I began investigating common ingredients found in most dog treats and biscuits, and was quite shocked to see how high in unhealthy ingredients they are. Thus began my search into finding treats for my dog that are healthy, and not quite so fattening.

We tried cooked and chilled carrots. We tried pig’s ears. (The pigs ears got the same disdain as the carrots.)

I looked online at my favorite equine supply website, and was delighted to discover they have a line of small animal products as well. Imagine my delight when I found some healthy dog biscuits!

With high hopes, I ordered two flavors in a small size to make sure that my loyal canine would enjoy them. They arrived with promptly, one of the many reasons I love dealing with this company.

I opened the box. My dog wandered over to see what was inside. We both looked at the packaging, and Jo began to sniff the outside of the treat box excitedly. Her tail began wagging faster and faster, and her ears stood up taller than they have in weeks.

We chose a box to try first, and opened the “chicken” flavor. The biscuits were shaped like normal dog bone treats are, a good size, and more than one bite for a large dog like my Jo. She sniffed the treat in my hand, getting more excited by the second.

I asked her to sit, and handed her the treat. Jo savored the treat, and chewed it down. These treats are now a staple. They have no ash, no corn meal, no floor sweepings, and no processed flours like so many treats do.

My dog’s weight has stabilized to a healthy level, and her coat shines as an added bonus. Was it worth it? You bet!

If cutting back a tad, and finding a healthier treat for my dog is what it takes to keep her around for a long time, then that is what we needed to do! Jo gives them four paws, and extra tail wags for the beef flavor.

Healthy Dog Biscuits

For millennia men and animals have lived in different forms of coorperation together, and it was when we learned to not just “hunt” animals but live together with animals that our society developed.
Everbody knows that “a dog is a mans best friend” - and in fact you won’t find another animal that is as loyal as a dog.
And since you are reading an article about healthy dog biscuits, I suppose you love your dog. In this article I don’t want to share a specific dog biscuit recipe with you, instead I want to talk about why healthy dog biscuits are important in general.

Healthy Dog BiscuitsMany people spend a lot of money on a luxury dog bed, they do a lot of research and asking around to find the best vet in the area to take care of their dog and buy premium dog food. If you’re one of them, healthy dog biscuits are an absolute must for you - if you have the time to do it.
There is something special about preparing food for your puppy yourself, because you can in this way give to him in a special way something that comes from your own hands.
You know already that dogs - just like humans - not only eat because they are hungry. They eat because they enjoy eating, it makes them feel good. (In all those years, it still cracks me up to see a dog just snap the food down, without chewing and then looking at you like it was air.)
You can actually help your dog to have a longer and healthier life by preparing healthy dog biscuits for him.
And this is a little bit of my personal secret, and I usually don’t tell people about this. But since this is a website only about dog biscuits, and you are taking the time to read this and probably care as much about your dog as I do, I want to share this with you: I have some dog biscuits that my doggie is absolutely mad about. I use this as a reward to train my dog, and it works wonders. But pssst… don’t tell my dog ;-)

So, I know this is an early end, and I haven’t shared any recipes for health dog biscuits with you here, but that will come at a later time. Now I’m off for work, so pardon me please. If you want to help me, just send in a healthy dog biscuit recipe and I’ll post it on this blog and let people know that it comes from you.
